Siobhan draws pictures for Christopher, the main character, to show different feelings. Christopher has a hard time recognizing emotions besides happy,
sad, and angry because he has Asperger’s Syndrome.

of imaginative and social play, impaired ability to make friends with peers, impaired ability to initiate or sustain a conversation with others…”
4) Why does the main character rip up the pictures of faces that Siobhan draws for him?
Christopher ripped up a picture that Siobhan drew for him because she made a joke involving him. Christopher did not understand that Siobhan was kidding
when she said that when he took the pictures out of his pocket it made other people feel confused and drew a face to show it.

The reason why Christopher likes dogs is because he can always tell what they’re thinking, this makes him feel safe. Another reason Christopher likes dogs
is because they are faithful, unable to lie, and cannot talk. “The hallmark feature of autism is impaired social interaction. Children with autism may fail to
respond to their names and often avoid looking at other people” (NINDS).

The main character decides to write a murder mystery novel because his teacher, Siobhan, told him to write about something he would want to read
himself (Haddon 4).

One reason why Christopher does not like other types of novels is because he cannot understand what a lot of it means. Another reason why Christopher
does not like novels is because they are fictional, so the story is not real. He thinks they are lies. This made him feel shaky and scared. “Half the people
with autism score below 50 on IQ tests” (NINDS).
8) Why does the main character roll back on the lawn while the police are questioning him?
Christopher rolls back on the lawn while the policeman is questioning him because there was too much information coming into his head from the outside world.
9) Why did the main character hit the police officer?
The reason for the main character hitting the police officer was because, he didn’t like the way the police officer was touching him. Christopher reacted this
way because he doesn’t respond very well to people touching him. “People with autism often have abnormal responses to sound, touch, or other sensory
stimulations” (Gale Cengage Learning).
10) Why does the main character say that prime numbers are like life because you can never work out the rules? What are the “rules” to life and why can’t
the main character figure them out?
The main character says that prime numbers are like life because Christopher, the main character, is unable see when he is doing something that is wrong.
The “rules” to life are laws and Chris thinks that laws and rules aren’t specific enough because he takes everything very literally. For example, Chris
explains, “People often say “Be Quiet,” but they don’t tell you how long to be quiet for” (Haddon 29). This example shows just how literally Christopher
takes everything.

11) Why does the main character find people confusing?
Christopher has Asperger’s Syndrome and some of the symptoms are the inability to make friends and the inability to have a conversation with other people.

Christopher doesn’t like metaphors because when he trys to make a picture of a phase in his head it just confuses him. For example imagining an apple
in someones eye doesn’t have anything to do with liking someone a lot and it makes you forget what person was talking about.

The main character doesn’t tell lies because he doesn’t know how. He believes that a lie is when you say something happened which didn’t, and knows
that there could be numbers of thing going on at that same time.

His mother had a heart problem and died from a heart attack.

Christopher says it is a good day when he sees four red cars in a row on the bus ride to school. A super good day is when he sees five red cars in a row.

16) Why did the main character think his mother’s death was odd?
Christopher thinks that his mother’s death was odd because his mother was only 38 years old and heart attacks usually happen to older people. She
also was very active and ate food which was healthy and high in fiber and low in saturated fat (Haddon 27).

He doesn’t do what he was supposed to do because when people tell you what to do it is usually confusing and does not make sense I believe
because of the autism

Christopher thinks that people believe in heaven because they are afraid of dying.

Christopher doesn’t believe in heaven because he doesn’t believe there is anything outside the universe and he knows that when someone dies, the brain
stops working and the body rots. Christopher sees things literally so it is hard for him to imagine places that aren’t there and this is also the reason
he cannot lie.
20) Why did the main character’s neighbor threaten to call the police?
The main character neighbor threaten to call the police the because when she came running outside all she seen was Christopher hold her dead dog
Wellington and assumed he had killed it.

Christopher does not like strangers because he does not like talking to people he does not know, it makes him nervous and paranoid.

Answer #22 Christopher says stranger danger is when a strange man offers him candy or a ride in his car because he wants to have sex with him.

23. What was the response of the women who lived at 44 when asked weather she knew of anyone that would want to make Mrs. Shears sad?
She thought that Christopher should talk to his father about his “detective work”. Christopher then responded that he promised his father that he wouldn’t meddle in the murder of Wellington. So the women suggested that his father may be right, but Christopher continued on his adventure.
24. Who is the main character’s prime suspect and why?
Christopher’s prime suspect for the murder is Mr. Shears because Chris used a chain of reasoning to find out why someone might kill a dog and he came to the conclusion that it would have to be to make Mrs. Shears upset. The only person Christopher knows that would want to make Mrs. Shears upset is Mr. Shears.
25. Why did the main character walk away when his neighbor went in to get biscuits?
Christopher walked away when Mrs. Alexander went into her house to get biscuits because she was taking too long. Since Mrs. Alexander is elderly, she walks slower than people younger than her age. While Christopher was waiting out side; he began to get paranoid and started wondering about what Mrs. Alexander was doing. He felt like she was taking too long, so he left before she had time to get back outside.
